1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the outside of the transmission, above the flywheel ring. The sensor transmits signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control fuel, timig and boost. It also sends signals to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference point to connect with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft reached TDC and also where the camshaft lies in order to activate the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error code. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of an issue with the chain or a jump in the chain link of the upper chain of timing. The code won't appear without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit tricky as there are two different pins for the connector and they have different functions but the most effective method of testing it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read around 1000 ohms if the sensor is operating at its maximum. If you're experiencing issues with this sensor, look for signs of coolant or oil in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday accelerating full speed from highway paytoll, i experienced an abrupt drop in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors are not firing at all. This morning i pull out the spark plugs, 3 were soaked with gazoline and the 4th one was dry. When I start the engine without sparks, i place a tissue on the top of each hole in the injector and the 3 that were drenched in gazoline leap out, however the 4th stays closed. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30, and 48/55. I got zero ohm. I think the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it is running fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when it is unplugged, shows a temperature of -49c. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is zero.

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump of the g28 receives signals from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is identical to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles.
