Types of UPVC Door Handles

Replacement-Windows-150x150.jpgIf your upvc door handle requires replacement, it is essential to find the right replacement for your home. Locksmiths can provide and install high-security uPVC handles that come with additional security features.

The most important measurements are measurement A (known as PZ) and the length of the backplate (measurement F). Please check these measurements to make sure your new uPVC handles will fit.

Lever/Lever

A lever is a solid bar pivoted around a point (known as a the fulcrum). When you apply a force at the end of the lever it is likely to cause it to turn the fulcrum in the direction of the applied force. This rotates the fulcrum, increasing the applied force which allows you to lift or move something that would require more force if you were to apply directly to the load.

The distance between the fulcrum and the point where you apply the force determines how far the lever can move. This is known as the mechanical advantage. The advantage of mechanical force increases when the lever is extended. You can calculate the mechanical advantage by dividing the distance from the fulcrum to the point at which you're applying the force by the distance between the fulcrum and the end of the lever.

Levers can have a variety of effects depending on the way the force is applied. For instance the class 2 lever has a tendency to turn in the opposite direction to when the effort force is applied (like a teeter-totter). The forces produced by pushing on the handle of a front door can produce rotational effects that are similar to those.

However, levers don't create energy. Levers multiply the force by making small amounts of effort applied over a long distance into larger amounts of force applied over shorter distances. Levers are used to lift heavy objects and move huge amounts of cargo. This is also the basis behind the levers that are found in many everyday tools like crowbars and fishing rods, claws for hammers, and even your legs when you sit on the hand brakes of your car.

Lever/Pad

Lever pad handles, also known as upvc door handles have levers on each side to operate the multipoint locks. Lever pad handles are available in various finishes and designs and can be used on a variety of materials, including UPVC doors, Aluminium doors & Timber Doors. They are sold in pairs for the doors, both exterior and interior with screws and spindles included. They are available in both hand- and non-handled versions to suit different users.

These locks can be used to replace an existing upvc door. The levers are lifted to open the multipoint locks, and the key is turned to lock or close the door. They provide additional security compared to lever handles for upvc windows for doors since the locking mechanism is only accessible from the inside with an open key, unless the door is locked.

They're not as secure as a cylinder lock but they're cost-effective ways to increase the security of your home. The only disadvantage is that they don't have the same level of security like a cylinder bolt and therefore don't stop external access when the door is left open.

The majority of lever pad upvc door handles for patio doors that we offer are manufactured by industry's leading manufacturers and therefore are made from high quality components. In general, they are supplied with a manufacturer's warranty.

Typically, they will be designed to work with a 92mm lock, or the replacement version known as a Paddock lock. They will feature a cylinder with 82mm diameter on the inside, and 62mm on the outside. They are also fitted with two spindle followers. Some are supplied inserted in the back plate whilst others can be removed to enable different fixing centres.

Lever/Snib

Lever latches are the most basic of all door handles, are used. The lever is pushed down to open a latch inside the door, which can be locked using keys. Certain lever privacy handles work using the same principle but with the addition of the lock snib (like the doorknob).

A snib button can be very useful, especially for homes where it's important to ensure privacy or security. You can use the snib button to stop your guests from entering the home until they are ready. This kind handle can also be put in on doors inside, such as those in bedrooms where you want to restrict access from outside.

Snib buttons can cause issues in certain situations, particularly when you have old locks and warped doors. If the snib switch is accidentally pressed, or by someone who isn't familiar with it, the door may slam and lock you out. You can usually gain entry by knocking the door frame or the letterbox. But this isn't a good idea.

If your uPVC has a snib we recommend replacing it with an electronic lock from the E-LOK 7 Series. They can be retrofitted to pull handle kits that double glazed window handles turn and are available with cover plates to conceal existing holes, for a seamless install. The E-LOK application can be used to open doors with RFID cards or mechanical keys. Passcodes are also offered for convenience and security. The system has been tested to 200k cycles to ensure durability. The handles themselves are made using a solid metal structure and are BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 for resistance to corrosion.

Lever/Moveable Pad

This popular handle style is used for front doors. It is advantageous because it has the benefit of preventing the door from being opened without an outside key when the lock hasn't been deadlocked. This is accomplished by using an external handle that is shaped like a pad that locks into the gap between the handle and lock case.

This handle is designed to be used with uPVC multipoint locks that use a split spindle mechanism. This type of operation requires the lever handle and the external pad handle to be installed on the same lock case. This could be a straightforward replacement of the existing uPVC handle, but it could also require a change in the lock case or a new set of handles to handle furniture.

These aluminium lever/movable pad door handles are ideal for uPVC doors and come with a maintenance free slide bearing as well as spring cassettes, and fixing lugs provided. They feature a euro-style cut out and can be fitted to a variety of uPVC and timber doors.

Lever moveable pads are available in a variety of finishes to suit many different multipoint locks. They are designed for use with split spindle locks with the 92mm cylinder as their centre and require a special set of split spindles provided by the manufacturer of the lock.

These Hoppe London lever moveable pad handle 77G/3831N/113 are constructed of cast aluminum with an anodized surface that is corrosion resistant and scratch resistant. They are compatible with a wide variety of other Hoppe products, including Patio Door handle door handles, french door handles, and white window handles handles. They are also fitted with a security escutcheon.

Lever/Moveable Snib

Lever handles are one of the most common types of upvc doors handles. They are available in various styles. It is comprised of two moveable inline handles and is lockable with either a key or a thumbturn cylinder on the inside. A pad handle is an alternative to a lever or lever handle and consists of a fixed or movable pad that can be used to operate the lock. These Fullex handles come with a spring-loaded lever pad and a snib that can be activated in order to secure the latch.
