We contacted Ladina Schopf - an interior designer, architect and the founder of LS Projects - for her suggestions on how to pick the right one. They weighed the capacity of storage and layout and energy efficiency, among other features.

As its name suggests, the GE Profile series is targeted at those who wish to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into their kitchens. This fridge is loaded with them all, from a Keurig K cup coffee maker inside the door, to a clever dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Given that this fridge costs more, I'd expect higher quality.

Apart from that minor flaw however, this refrigerator is a great option. It features a large freezer compartment which is uncommon for counter-depth French door fridges. It also holds a lot of frozen food items compared to other models.

The fridge is equipped with 17 shelves and compartments. The refrigerator compartment is 18.5 cubic feet, which is typical for a French-door refrigerator at this price. It also has a decent-sized icemaker that is tucked away in the left-hand door, although it's not the largest I've seen.

You can alter the shelves in both compartments to create a custom storage setup for the items you need to store. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS also looks attractive. Its LED lighting is a nice addition and the storage bins have a third shelf that folds up beneath itself to make it possible to store items that are tall. The drawers are equipped with temperature controls so that you can set them for Beverage, Meat, or Deli settings. The drawers are simple to open and shut however I found the textured plastic coatings a bit hard on my fingers.

The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator comes with all the features you would expect from a refrigerator in this price range. It has Wi-Fi, app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. The app, which is available for iOS and Android devices, lets you control your fridge from anywhere in the world, and it has a ton of customization options. It also sends you notifications when doors are left open, when the refrigerator or freezer needs to be defrosted and when it's time to change the filter.

It would be nice if GE PYE22PYNFS included Precise fill, an option available in other GE fridges that allows you to preset how many cups of water you'd like to dispense at a time. It does have a countdown on the fridge's display to display how much water have remaining, but that's not as useful as Precise Fill.

The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also has a vegetable compartment that keeps fruits and vegetables fresher for longer, and dual compressors to preserve food. The Ice maker is among the most efficient we've ever tested and produces pyramid-shaped ice with a low use of water. This fridge is perfect for a single household or a kitchenette that wants an attractive design and top of the line food preservation.

This fridge was rated the top in our Refrigerators Test due to a variety of reasons. The temperature of the freezer remained constant at just above 0°F and never fluctuated by more than a fraction, this is crucial to avoid freezing burn. The fridge's fridge section also performed well, achieving the temperature that was set for the initial setting within a matter of hours and keeping that temperature steady over the course of our testing.

Bosch is known for its top-quality appliances. Therefore, it's no surprise that Bosch's counter depth fridge Bosch counter depth refrigerator can be connected to your home Wi Fi and Bosch's Home Connect. The app lets you monitor and manage your fridge remotely using your smartphone or tablet. The refrigerator is costly however, it offers excellent features and functionality at a reasonable cost.

It is crucial to be aware of the limitations of your fridge. It has a narrow space for shelves, so you may require some creativity when it comes to storing large items. Also the shelves aren't sprillproof and can be easily damaged or stained by sharp objects. The trays are easily removed from the fridge. However, they should be cleaned frequently to stop the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

The LG LRFLC2706S is a great counter-depth refrigerator that packs a lot of storage into an extremely compact frame. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge is built with a standard French door layout, with two rows of shelves that can be used to capture spills and a set of crisper drawers. The top shelf on the right can be folded to provide more space for taller items. There's also a full-width drawer for deli and an inside water dispenser.

One of the nice aspects of this refrigerator is that the ice maker is inside the freezer, making it easy to transfer the ice to the refrigerator to be used when it is needed. The freezer also comes with innovative design features like sliding drawers that can help you organize your belongings. It also has a huge bin that can accommodate plenty of frozen food items and a separate storage bin for ice.

Smart InstaView panel is another cool feature of the refrigerator. It lets you manage the refrigerator's temperature as well as lighting using your smartphone. It's a good method of monitoring and managing your refrigerator, especially if you're away from home.

The Smart InstaView feature is neat however it doesn't improve the efficiency of the non plumbed fridge french door. In fact, it took longer to defrost and chill food in this refrigerator than some of the others we tried. This is likely due to its larger capacity.

The doors are another problem with this refrigerator. The handles with a sunken design let shorter people open them from the bottom. However, taller people still struggle to close them without slamming them. It would have been much better if they had handles mounted on the front.

The LG Counter-Depth MAX is a good choice for those who want to combine the advantages of a fridge with a French door with a more efficient layout. It has a capacity that is above average for counter-depth models and also cools evenly. It's also a bit cheaper than the top counter depth refrigerator with an ice maker, which makes it an attractive choice.

Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator

If you're looking for an French door fridge that doesn't cost you a fortune this Frigidaire is a good choice. It's a minimalist design that's not as striking in appearance like some of the competitors however it comes with enough features to make it a good choice. Its most notable feature is the adjustable temperature drawer, which helps keep foods like meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also has a large ice maker and a water dispenser.

Another feature that is worth mentioning is the "Chill Drawer" that sits over the two crisper bins. The drawer lets you direct the majority of your fridge's cooling power into this area so that you can keep food items that require special attention. This feature can be adjusted using a slider located outside the drawer. You can also alter the general cooling settings for the entire fridge. I've noticed that the general settings are more effective than the specific ones.

During my tests, the temperatures of the refrigerator were fairly consistent across all areas of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the middle, top and bottom of the fridge didn't differ significantly from 38 degrees. This is a pretty good performance, but it doesn't quite rank among the best in our ratings.

This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also pair this fridge with a smart thermometer for more precise readings of the internal temperature of your fridge.

The exterior of the Frigidaire is made of gray-bodied stainless with a "smudge resistant" finish. It does a great job of preventing streaks and fingerprints from appearing even when compared to the glossy stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tried.
